Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island's 2026 update states that BlueCHiP for Medicare Value members were combined into BlueCHiP for Medicare Enhanced. Old Value brochures should not be treated as a current offer with unchanged benefits.

Match your documents to the transition
Check your current member card, enrollment notice and Evidence of Coverage. A document referring to the former product may explain a transition, rather than prove that the old plan continues on identical terms. Ask BCBSRI to confirm the exact plan and year.
| Document | What it helps establish |
|---|---|
| Annual Notice of Change | Differences from the previous year's arrangement. |
| Current member card | The member-service contact and product information. |
| Evidence of Coverage | Benefit conditions and member procedures. |
| Provider directory | Participation in the current network. |
Understand HMO-POS access
A point-of-service feature can permit specified out-of-network services under the plan's terms. It does not mean unrestricted coverage with every provider. Confirm which services qualify, what you pay and whether approval is needed.
Review costs and additional benefits
Compare the current premium, visit charges and medical spending limit. Ask separately about eligibility and limits for any supplemental benefit. Do not carry amounts from a prior Value brochure into an Enhanced comparison.
Before a planned appointment
- Verify the professional and office location under the current product.
- Confirm referrals or authorization.
- Ask how an ongoing course of care is handled after a plan change.
- Keep written answers and any approval reference.
For the next coverage year, read that year's notices again. This article documents the 2026 transition, not a guarantee that names, benefits or costs will remain unchanged in later years. Medicare and Rhode Island's SHIP can provide additional assistance.
