BCBS Medicare Supplement Plan G: Coverage, Quotes and Provider Access

Check standardized Plan G benefits, the Part B deductible, local BCBS pricing and enrollment rights before applying or replacing an existing policy.

BCBS Medicare Supplement Plan G helps pay designated costs left by Original Medicare. It is not a Medicare Advantage plan, and it is not a government benefit called Part G. Identify the local Blue Cross Blue Shield insurer and the exact policy version before comparing quotes.

What standard Plan G does and does not pay

Standard Plan G covers specified Part A and Part B cost sharing, including the Part A deductible and Part B excess charges. It does not pay the Part B deductible. It also has a limited foreign-travel emergency benefit with its own conditions.

Medigap does not turn every excluded service into a covered service. Routine dental, routine vision and outpatient Part D coverage are not automatically included in the standard policy.

Compare the same version

Version or feature What to confirm
Standard Plan G Premium and the remaining Part B deductible.
High-deductible Plan G Separate annual threshold before the supplemental policy pays.
Medicare SELECT Network conditions for full supplemental benefits.
Optional extras Whether they are insurance benefits or separate discounts with their own terms.

Check pricing and purchase rights

BCBS companies are independent, and rates depend on the issuing company and rating factors. Compare written quotes for the same effective date. Ask about future rate changes and whether a discount can expire.

The federal Medigap Open Enrollment Period generally begins when you are at least 65 and enrolled in Part B. Outside protected enrollment or guaranteed-issue situations, health questions may apply. Additional state rights can change the options.

Before replacing coverage

Confirm acceptance and the new start date before canceling an existing policy. Check how claims are coordinated and review any SELECT network restrictions. The familiar BCBS logo does not establish that another state's policy or an employer plan has the same rules.
