Wellcare TexanPlus Medicare Advantage: Verify Your Texas Plan

Review the exact TexanPlus contract, Texas service area, network rules and benefit documents without assuming every plan has the same coverage.

Wellcare TexanPlus is a name used for Medicare Advantage plans in Texas. Benefits cannot be determined from that name alone. Identify the full product name, contract and plan number, service area and coverage year before comparing costs or scheduling care.

Understand the plan type

For example, Wellcare lists TexanPlus Classic Simple H4506-003 as an HMO-POS for 2026. A point-of-service feature does not mean unrestricted out-of-network medical access. That plan's summary permits out-of-network routine dental services while describing network requirements for other services, subject to stated exceptions.

Use the rules for your own contract. Emergency care, urgently needed care and out-of-area dialysis have special protections; they should not be confused with ordinary planned visits outside the network.

Prepare a plan-specific checklist

  • Confirm your county is within the service area.
  • Check your primary doctor, specialists and hospitals in the exact network.
  • Ask which referrals or prior authorizations are needed.
  • Review hospital, outpatient and specialist cost sharing.
  • Verify any dental, vision, hearing and pharmacy benefits separately.
  • Read the medical out-of-pocket limit and what counts toward it.

Compare documents rather than advertising

Keep the current Summary of Benefits and Evidence of Coverage together. Confirm provider participation with the plan and the provider's office. A provider accepting Original Medicare does not automatically participate in every TexanPlus contract.

If a proposed service is unclear, ask for a written coverage decision before nonurgent care. A general telephone statement about the brand is less useful than an answer tied to the service and your contract.

Before enrollment or renewal

Medicare Advantage generally requires Parts A and B and an available enrollment period. Review employer or retiree coverage before changing it. Each fall, compare the Annual Notice of Change with your current care needs rather than assuming next year's network and benefits will be identical.
