CoxHealth's provider organization and Cox HealthPlans insurance are related names with different responsibilities. CoxHealth lists several Medicare Advantage insurance partners. Receiving care at a CoxHealth facility does not mean you are enrolled in a Cox-branded policy.

Identify both sides of the arrangement
| Role | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Insurance company | Full product, contract and coverage year. |
| Doctor or hospital | Participation at the specific service location. |
| Plan administrator | Benefits, authorization and claims procedures. |
| Employer sponsor, if applicable | Group eligibility and consequences of changing coverage. |
Use the partner list as a starting point
A health system's list can help identify participating insurers, but it is not a member-specific coverage decision. Ask the insurer and office about your exact product. Check specialists, hospitals and services that might involve separate professionals.
Read the plan documents
Compare the current Summary of Benefits and Evidence of Coverage. A company's commercial medical policy is not the same as its Medicare product. For renewal, review the Annual Notice of Change rather than assuming last year's costs remain in effect.
Compare what you will actually use
- Primary care and specialist appointments.
- Hospital and outpatient services.
- Premiums, deductibles and medical spending limits.
- Referrals, prior approval and supplemental benefits.
Do not infer unrestricted access or zero cost from the system's name. Emergency protections and routine non-network care have different rules.
Before changing coverage
Confirm the enrollment period and effective date, and keep written acceptance. Ask how existing authorizations and planned care will be handled. Medicare and Missouri SHIP can explain general choices; the issuing insurer confirms coverage and appeal decisions for its policy.
