Cigna Alliance Medicare HMO: Review Current HealthSpring Coverage

Match the Alliance contract and year before comparing HMO provider access, referrals, premiums, Part D and additional benefits.

Cigna Alliance Medicare HMO information should be checked against the current HealthSpring Alliance contract for your location. HealthSpring is the current brand for the former Cigna Medicare business. “Alliance” is a plan name, not a government endorsement or one universal nationwide benefit package.

Identify the correct Alliance plan

Use the member card, full contract and plan number, county and coverage year. HealthSpring publishes plan-specific annual change notices and Evidence of Coverage documents. An Alliance document for one contract cannot establish another contract's premium, medical spending limit or extra benefits.

Understand the HMO access rules

Care situation What to check
Primary care Required selection and participation of the chosen practice.
Specialist appointment Referral and authorization requirements for the proposed service.
Planned care outside the network Whether an exception or additional benefit applies before scheduling.
Emergency or urgent care Covered access rules that differ from ordinary scheduled visits.

Medicare HMOs generally require network care, with exceptions including emergencies, urgently needed care and out-of-area dialysis. Do not apply that exception to every routine visit while traveling.

Compare current costs

Read premiums, office and hospital cost sharing, the medical maximum and any Part D coverage separately. A Part B premium reduction, if offered, is contract-specific and is not unrestricted cash. The medical maximum does not cap every expense, including premiums and Part D costs.

When reviewing a renewal or new enrollment

Check providers again even if you used them last year. Keep the Annual Notice of Change and compare it with the new coverage document. Confirm the enrollment period, start date and any employer or union implications before replacing coverage.

For an existing member issue, contact the number on the current card. Request an accessible or Spanish document if that helps you understand the actual contract.
