Aetna Medicare Advantage hearing benefits depend on the specific plan. A covered hearing examination does not automatically mean every hearing aid, provider or purchase method is covered. Check the exam and device benefits separately before committing to a cost.

Understand the service categories
| Service | What to check |
|---|---|
| Diagnostic hearing or balance evaluation | Medical eligibility, referral or order rules and cost sharing. |
| Routine hearing examination | The supplemental benefit’s frequency and provider requirements. |
| Hearing aid and fitting | Approved purchase pathway, device cost, fitting and follow-up services. |
| Repair or replacement | Warranty, loss coverage and replacement limits. |
Original Medicare does not cover hearing aids or fitting exams. Certain diagnostic services are covered under separate medical rules. Medigap does not turn the excluded hearing-aid benefit into routine insurance coverage.
Check the NationsHearing pathway
Aetna’s current general Medicare benefit page describes NationsHearing as its hearing-benefit partner. It distinguishes HMO and PPO examination pathways and says covered hearing aids must be obtained through NationsHearing. Confirm the process for your exact plan, especially before buying a device directly from a retailer.
An office accepting Aetna for a medical visit may not be the required hearing-benefit provider. Ask both the plan and office to verify your intended service and current member eligibility.
Get the full cost in writing
- Is the exam included, and how often?
- What is your cost for the proposed device?
- Are fitting, adjustment and follow-up visits included?
- What trial, return or warranty conditions apply?
- What happens if a device is lost or needs replacement?
Keep the estimate and plan response. If a purchase was denied, ask whether the reason was eligibility, provider, timing or purchase method and follow the notice’s review process.
Choose clinical care with a professional
This article explains insurance administration. A qualified hearing professional should assess your needs; an allowance or advertisement does not determine which device is medically appropriate.
